The Trail of Painted Ponies is an art form that emerged from the southwest in the summer of 2000. It began in New Mexico as a public art for charity project. Artists from the southwest entered a contest, painting life size ponies. Corporations, businesses and individuals chose their favorite pony to sponsor. One hundred twenty ponies were on exhibition around New Mexico and Arizona.
